Why would you need a echo-gram?

I wouldn't, but my wife might if she were pregnant. Echo-grams are often used to check up on the in-utero fetus. It's one way, for example, of sexing the fetus to see if it's a boy or girl. It's also used to check the health of the fetus and ensure, for example, that the umbilical cord is not wrapped around its neck.
