Adjunct is a part time position, generally night classes. They are not given office space, health insurance, or other benefits. They are paid by the hour. Colleges use them because they cost less money to hire than a full time instructor, but they get the same teaching. Full time are paid an annual salary, have an office, have benefits and pay into the retirement system.
Adjunct only references being a part-time faculty. Pay, benefits, time of classes taught, and resources available are unique to each university and can vary wildly.
