Why are houses in foreign coutries painted white?

They aren't and just like the United States they are all colors. One reason houses were not painted at one time is that paint was too expensive and when they were painted white that was the only color that could be bought. Why do you think that the houses in other countries are only white? I have lived in Germany and been all over Europe and guarantee they all aren't.
