The Europeans thought nothing of the Aboriginals when they arrived on Australia's shores. As a matter of fact they saw Australia as empty land.

Note: When William Dampier arrived in 1688, he referred to the Aborigines as "the miserablest people in the world". Like many other Europeans, he misjudged the Aborigines, not recognising their unique skills.
