Grand Theft Auto 2 took place in a "near future". When the game was released in 1999 nobody knew exactly what year it was but a few years ago Rockstar Games uploaded on their website fictionnal newspaper articles from the game dated : July 2013. And those who knows GTA very well knows that Claude Speed makes an apparition in GTA San Andreas wich took place in 1992.
