No because technically Australia is not an independent country the Queen of England is still our head of state This is not correct, Australia became an independent country on March 3rd 1986 after the Australia Act 1986 came into force. This act should have been called the 'Australia Independence Act 1986'. The Queen today can only appoint a G.G. on advice from the Australian PM, she has no real power.
