How does a lamprey spawn?

Lampreys spawn by migrating to freshwater rivers or streams during their breeding season. The female lamprey lays thousands of eggs in a nest constructed by the male, who creates a depression in the substrate using his body. After the eggs are laid, the male fertilizes them externally. Once fertilized, the eggs develop into larvae, which eventually metamorphose into adult lampreys.
