How do you get a weapon under the ring on Smackdown vs Raw 2008?

Stand on the outside close to the ring and press X (ps3, ps2 and psp)/A (Xbox 360). Just make sure to not move your character towards the ring when pressing the button, because then you'll just climb up to the side of the ring.
