What is curcumin?

Curcumin, a natural yellow pigment found in turmeric and the active ingredient in curry, has recently attracted considerable attention due to its intriguing antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-viral, anti-mutagenic, and anti-microbial characteristics. It is an organic compound which plays a similar role to cholesterol in the body, it modulates the structure of the lipid bilayer.
