Why is fleece waterproof?

Fleece is not inherently waterproof; it is typically made from synthetic materials like polyester or nylon that do not absorb water easily. Some fleece may have a DWR (durable water repellent) finish applied to the fabric, which helps to repel light moisture. For full waterproof protection, a waterproof membrane or coating would need to be added to the fabric.
