How was Mount Elbert formed?

Mount Elbert, the highest peak in Colorado, was formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. It is a part of the Sawatch Range, which was uplifted during the Laramide orogeny, a mountain-building event in the late Cretaceous and early Cenozoic eras.
