Both production and trade were hampered by the war, and the war consumed available supplies of food, clothing, and ammunition. This led to shortages in the colonies, and expensive shipping of supplies from Canada and England for the British forces.
After the war, the large supply of paper money issued during the war became essentially worthless, although the central government was able to repay some debts.
