In the 1940s, black women primarily held jobs in domestic service, such as maids and cooks, as well as in agriculture and textile factories. Many were employed in low-wage positions due to systemic discrimination and limited opportunities. During World War II, some black women also joined the workforce in roles traditionally occupied by men, including shipbuilding and manufacturing. Additionally, women began to enter the civil service and other emerging fields, laying the groundwork for future advances in employment opportunities.
