Known as the "Massacre of Glencoe," 38 MacDonaldds from the Clan of MacDonald of Glencoe were killed by the guests who had accepted their hospitality. At 5 am on Friday the 13th, 1692, the visitors awoke and murdered as many of the Scotsmen as possible. Fleeing to the surrounding mountains (bens), 40 or more women and children would die of exposure after their houses were burned to the ground.
