What are sesimic waves?

Seismic waves are vibrations that travel through the Earth in response to an earthquake, explosion, or other disturbance. There are two main types: body waves, which travel through the interior of the Earth, and surface waves, which travel along its surface. Scientists use the study of these waves to learn about the Earth's internal structure and to track the location and magnitude of seismic events.
