Each player is assigned a number of home and away uniforms per season. They are polyester and get pretty well worked. They are washed by their respective team's staff. They can, however, get a new uniform whenever they request one. Especially when they donate signed game jerseys to charities and giveaways and such. Also, most MLB uniforms change slightly each year. I would guess an average major leaguer goes through a hundred uniforms in a career. Give or take.
