Why are there so few Muslims in America?

America (assuming we are referring to the United States of America) was colonised by European settlers who brought the Christian faith with them. America later gained independence from her European ancestors, however cultural roots remained.

Islam had no influence on the "New World" as the Europeans dubbed it. In more recent times, given that the world is now a global place and ideas and information can be communicated anywhere at any time, Islam is able to exert a limited influence yet the Christian faith remains vastly dominant given that it has been present for hundreds of years.
