In this instance it means that you have "indefinite leave to remain" (i.e.: you have the choice of leaving anytime you like, or staying) UNTIL the expiration of your legal authorization for being here.

It does not set aside the expiration date of the passport or visa, and grants no authority to remain past the expiration of your document.
