Fundraising has come a long way in the last 50 years. It is no longer just magazines, candy and wrapping paper. You can have a fundraiser using just about anything these days. From printer cartridges to carnivals, the sky is the limit! One unique idea is using lottery tickets. We are all familiar with the state lottery, and it is a system that has worked well for many years. Using it on a smaller scale could turn a profit, and make selling items fun and easy.
A successful fundraiser using scratch tickets can be accomplished two different ways. You can purchase tickets that have 70 scratch dots on them and give one card to each student. The student can take the card around to family members and friends and ask them to scratch off two dots, and donate the amount revealed. Another approach you can take might be a lot more fun! You can have your own lottery scratch tickets printed and have variety of prizes. The thrill is the thought of the prize! Free homework passes, school t-shirts, key chains, PTA memberships and many other things could be offered as prizes. Tickets can be sold in increments of $1, $5 or $10. You will be surprised at how many you sell!
Another great idea is to use recycling to make money. This has better results when it is done by a smaller club rather than a whole school. To accomplish this, you will need to get a big recycle bin to put in the parking lot of the school somewhere. Send home fliers and emails, asking people to bring their recycling to you instead of having the county pick it up. You can limit what people bring in to whatever works for you. Having just newspaper is sometimes easier and cleaner. It might help bring people in if you have the students at the recycle bins at specific times. It helps the people donating to get through faster, and it looks good to let them see who they are helping.
