The "piercers" that they have at such keosks in malls and the like are not piercers in the standard definition of the Word since they've had NO formal training, usually know nothing of bloodborne pathogens and cross contamination, use ear crunching piercing guns (which cannot be sterilized properly) in places where such a device was never meant to pierce, the jewelry that they shoehorn into your ear is usually too small to account for swelling so you'll be in some pain afterwards, and lastly they give you really low quality astringent for your ears which will either dry them out or irritate them most of the time. Best to go to a body piercer in your area, have a look at their portfolio, and then get a piercing through them.
