How many died in herculaneum when mount Vesuvius erupted?

During the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79, it's estimated that around 4,000 people died in Herculaneum. The city was buried under a thick layer of volcanic ash and pyroclastic material, which preserved many of its structures and artifacts.
