Is auto mechanics a recommended job?

If you like working with your hands and you love cars, auto repair is a great job. The pay is decent, but typically doesn't provide benefits. Training doesn't take too long (18 months for a decent community college trade program), but you need to stay updated on new models and techniques every year. Job security is fantastic. You can work just about anywhere.
