What is the function of a roasting pan?

A roasting pan is a form used for roasting things in an oven. They are highly heat resistant, to withstand oven temperatures. Roasting pans are made of metal, borosilicate glass (like Pyrex), silicone, ceramic, enamel, and even aluminum foil. They often have lids which are used to retain heat and juices, but can be removed for browning.
