What effects did trains have on society?

They allowed distances to be crossed in less time, thus making expansion of countries and regions much more easier and common (such as Canada or the United States of America, with their expansion west). They also allowed goods to be transported, reinforcing and helping these new found regions. New employmentalso helped, as people were needed to build the tracks ( event though slaves were commonly used)
