Bob Marley's father, Norval Sinclair Marley, was a British naval officer. He worked as a plantation overseer in Jamaica, where he managed a sugar plantation. Norval's position allowed him to provide for his family, but he had a limited presence in Bob's life, as he and Bob's mother, CeDELLa Booker, were not married and separated when Bob was young.
