What are the difference between a gift card and gift voucher?

The practical meaning of the terms 'gift card' and 'gift voucher' may vary depending on the issuer. Rarely, the two phrases are used interchangeably. However, generally speaking a gift card is less restrictive (it can be used in place of cash towards any purchase at a given vendor) and has a longer shelf life (expiration date is farther away). Gift vouchers, on the other hand, can be for specific items only or have other strict restrictions that apply, and are not usually considered the same as store cash.
