Acute Compartment Syndrome is caused by increased pressure within a closed muscle compartment, often due to trauma, such as fractures, crush injuries, or severe bruising. This elevated pressure can compromise blood flow and lead to tissue ischemia and necrosis. Other causes include tight bandaging, swelling from inflammation, or reperfusion injury after a period of ischemia. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are critical to prevent permanent muscle and nerve damage.
