The virgin Mary as seen in The Bible was the mother of Jesus. She however was never impregnated before Jesus's birth. This is why Christians believe that Jesus is the messiah. Christians (that are not Catholic) also believe however that Mary is not any more special that any other person. She just happened to give birth to the messiah.

Apart from her being the second Ark who found favour of the Lord ; she engaged in ornamentation work as a member of her family, clan and society; and accompanied her Son as a disciple of the Lord.
The Virgin Mary was raised in the Temple where she 'took the true purple and the scarlet ...and spun it'. During the sojourn in Egypt she 'spun for hire' - The Apocryphal and Legendary Life of Christ.
When raised in the temple she was taught the Law and the Prophets. E.g. During discourse in Pistis Sophia Ch. 59 Mary, mother of the Lord recites correctly Ode 19 of Solomon, (Ode 1, after the 18 renamed Psalms of Solomon) :
' The Lord is on my head like a wreath, and I shall not depart from him.
The wreath in truth is woven for me; and it have caused thy twigs to sprout in me.
For it is not like unto a withered wreath that sprouteth not. But thou are alive on my head and thou hath sprouted upon me.
Thy fruits are full and perfect, filled with thy salvation.'
