Why is Curious George so curious?

A possible reason for the curiOSity of the character Curious George is that he has been taken from his original environment in Africa to a big city; this change may have stimulated Curious George's interest in his new surroundings. Part of the reason may lie in George's species, which is not denoted by the authors, however George has many of the physical characteristics of a juvenile chimpanzee. These apes are curious by nature, a fact which has been played upon by the creators of the character.
