What empire disappeared?

The Roman Empire, one of the most influential empires in history, gradually disappeared over the course of several centuries, culminating in the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD. This decline was due to a combination of internal strife, economic troubles, military defeats, and outside invasions, particularly by Germanic tribes. While the Eastern Roman Empire, known as the Byzantine Empire, continued to exist for nearly another thousand years, the Western Empire's collapse marked a significant transition in European history, leading to the Middle Ages.
