His California novels are more famous: The Dubious Battle, Of Mice and Men and The Grapes of Wrath. Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday preceded his war correspondent period. East of Eden and Travels with Charley and his final in 1961 was the Winter of Our Discontent. In 1962, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
