Henry wanted Mary betrothed to his son Edward so that Scotland and England would ruled by one monarch. He didn't get his way then and attacked Scotland in the "Rough Wooing". It back fired on Henry when Mary's mother sent her to France to be married to the Dauphin.

It was Mary's son, James, who eventually fulfilled Henry's dream, when he became king of both Scotland and England at Elizabeth I's death.
