When my 6-year-old overreacts to minor injuries, I validate her feelings by acknowledging her pain while gently encouraging her to take deep breaths to calm down. I reassure her that it's okay to feel upset but also explain that most minor injuries don't require a band-aid or that a simple hug can help. Over time, I try to teach her coping strategies for minor discomforts, helping her build resilience and confidence in handling small injuries. Positive reinforcement for moments when she manages without excessive crying can also encourage her to respond differently in the future.
