How did the effects of nationalism lead up to World War 1?

Not one of the participants on either side could swallow their National Pride. Seriously! This is a huge subject best handled by reading a book, only 250 pages, like John Keegan's 'The First WorlWar'. It's available online! You'll be amazed how stupid politicians who are supposedly intelligent grown-ups can be. Nothing has changed, btw.
