The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has upheld a complaint by the Consumer Education and Research Society (CERS) against advertisements of "Morning Walker" exercise equipment, a product of Kolkata-based Spaceage Multiproducts Pvt Ltd.
The Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) of the ASCI has concluded that the claims mentioned in the advertisement were false and misleading. The Council has asked the company to apologise to consumers and return money to the unsatisfied ones.
The advertisements claim that 'Morning Walker' can give health benefits equal to those of walking 10,000 steps. They also claim that a 15-minute use can secure the user against life-threatening and crippling diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiac ailments, Arthritis, spondylitis, obesity, joint pain, etc.
The CERS, in a statement on Thursday, said the website of the product and its promotional materials also falsely claimed that this equipment had been endorsed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA); verified by the National Institute of Orthopaedically Handicapped (NIOH); tried on over 4,000 patients by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, who have benefited by its use; and certified by the Medic
