While tobacco is member of the same plant family (solanaceae) as other plants which contain anticholinergic toxins, it does not contain these same alkaloids. Symptoms of anticholinergic poisoning include: confusion, decreased mucus production, dry mouth, pupil dilation, increased heart rate, blurred vision, urinary retention and ileus. Nicotine does not produce these effects and in some causes opposite effects, such as better concentration/awareness and increases bowel movements.
