On a 1998 Taurus, the heater hose fitting at the thermostat connection is typically pressed in and not designed to be unscrewed. If the nipple is broken, you can try using a pair of pliers to carefully remove any remaining pieces of the fitting. If it doesn't budge, you may need to drill it out and use a tap to re-thread the hole for a new fitting. Alternatively, consider replacing the entire thermostat housing if the repair proves too difficult.
