Are doctors and physicians assistants the same?

Yes and No

They are trained in a similar model of education, but physicians complete a residency. PA's can complete an optional residency for PA's. They perform similar duties in primary care settings. PA's consult with physicians or refer when a patient presents with something they need assistance with. Physicians do this as well, however, they typically refer when they need assistance to the appropriate specialist.

Both are very well trained to provide medically based healthcare. These two practitioners represent the most highly trained in healthcare.
