The best way for your PC to recognize the CD-Rom drive is use a boot or Start up floppy. Make 1 from any Windows 98 based PC. Go to START-Settings-CONTROL PANEL-Add/Remove programs, the tab START UP DISK, have a brand new 3½" Floppy disk LABELED: Windows BOOT-UP. It will load the generic drivers so you can install the correct one, once it sees it.
