He had a fiancé, Ben Maisani, that he met in 2009 and they were planning to marry on Labor Day 2012. However, before the marriage, pictures of Maisani kissing another man in a park appeared in the press. The wedding did not take place and there were rumors of a breakup. However, as of October 2012, Cooper and Maisani were still living together and seen going for walks together.
