Meteoroids are small rocky or metallic bodies in space, typically smaller than asteroids, ranging in size from grains of dust to about a meter wide. They originate from comets, asteroids, or fragments from larger bodies. When meteoroids enter Earth's atmosphere and burn up due to friction, they produce bright streaks of light known as meteors. If they survive their passage through the atmosphere and land on Earth, they are called meteorites.
