It can do if reading is something that you enjoy. Many people read books for precisely that reason - to reduce stress.
However, reading can also have the opposite effect. For example, if someone isn't very good at reading (e.g. they are dyslexic) then reading can be quite stressful for them.
Similarly, if you are reading for a test or exam then it can cause stress if you feel under pressure or that you don't understand the material.
