What country does the word blitz come from?

Nazi Germany recognized the tendency of defensive lines to stagnate into a war of attrition. Pitted against the vast resources of the American, Soviet, and British Empires, they realized that this was not an option, and ensured a slow, painful death for the Totalitarian Regime and its economy. Therefore, mobility was the logical option.

They developed a strategy that translates to "lightning war." It was a doctrine based around moving fast and hitting hard, and epitomized the phrase "The best defense is a good offense." It made extensive use of tank charges and air raids, mandating how they should be used together. The proper German name for this strategy was "blitzkrieg." This is where the American use of the Word blitz has its origins.
