Why petrochemicals are not considered nutrients?

Petrochemicals are derived from fossil fuels and primarily serve as raw materials for industrial processes, rather than as biological substances needed for growth and metabolism. Unlike nutrients, which are essential for the sustenance of living organisms, petrochemicals do not provide the necessary vitamins, minerals, or energy required for biological functions. Additionally, many petrochemicals can be toxic or harmful to living organisms, further distinguishing them from nutrients. Thus, while they play a vital role in various applications, they do not fulfill the role of nutrients in biological systems.
