Why do Americans celebrate stpactrics day?

Americans celebrate st. patricks day because either they actually have ancestors who came from Ireland, or its an excuse to get completley drunk and suffer enormous consequences.

On The Other hand

A Large number if the Irish That came to New England at least went into the safer

civil service or city government service (fire fighters etc) and as a result affected holiday scheduling Plus there was Tammany Hall (New York also had a strong Tammamy Hall(a democratic party wing dominated by recent newcomers to America)

also The Irish 'party Spirit was known earlier and celebrated St. Pat's to rejoice in their escape from the English
