Light is produced in an atom through a process called electronic transition. When an atom absorbs energy, its electrons can move from a lower energy level to a higher one, creating an excited state. When the electron returns to its original lower energy level, it releases energy in the form of light, often observed as a photon. The wavelength (color) of the emitted light corresponds to the energy difference between the two levels.
