How do mixed people get dread locks?

like other kinds of races like me i might look black but i am not i am black american cheerokee indian mixed with white so other people stop using perms because that can make the tip of the dread straight its the worst trust me it happened to me before and i had to cut all my hair off so anyways every one can get dreads
