Is the rail gun good in fallout 3?

There is a railway rifle that shoots railroad spikes, and you get that gun from blueprints (look on YouTube for a guide to find them). There is also a Guess rifle from the DLC Operation Anchorage that shoots a laser similar to a real rail-gun (just smaller) and you get that gun from just playing the DLC.
