Okay so for this question all you need to do is find out the volume of the box which is the surface area multiplyed by the depth......
so the smaller box is 6 x 4 x 3 = 72 cm3
larger box = 6 x 8 x 12 = 576 cm3
Therefore to calculate how many boxes fit into the large box divide the volume of the big box by the small box and see how many times it will fit
576 divided by 72 = 8
so the answer is 8 times

This is unfortunately incorrect and not as easy as you are making it. It only works if you smash the smaller boxes into a billion pieces and have no spaces. Volume only works with liquids or plasmas and maybe dust. Since you are dealing with 3 dimensions, it is a much more complex scenario referred to as Bin Packing:
