What is the closest anyone has got to Area 51?

The closest anyone can get to Area 51 without endangering themselves is the main gate, approximately a full mile from the facility itself. Anyone that's attempted to go farther was either arrested or shot. Using modern satellite imagery though, you can get an aerial view of the facility, technically getting as close to it as you want.
